1869-1869 | WOA S2
Full-length gilded statue of a young medieval king holding a model Anglo-Saxon ship in his left hand. His right hand rests atop the handle of a double-headed axe, the blade of which rests next to his left foot. The king wears a crown and is dressed in belted tunic, boots that lace around the calves and a plain cloak, which is draped diagonally from his right shoulder across his chest. He has shoulder-length hair and a moustache. The king's name is incised in gold on a black base which stands on a red and gold plinth. The sculpture is situated in the Palace of Westminster and is surrounded by elaborate wallpaper and plasterwork.
