1869-1869 | WOA S91
Gilded full-length statue of a middle-aged man wearing chainmail, a crown-shaped helmet and a cloak. He holds a sheathed sword in his left hand and rests his right hand on a large shield stood on its edge next to his right leg. He wears a thick leather belt around his waist which is attached to the sheath of his sword. The man's left leg protrudes forwards slightly and he gazes into the distance towards the left with a neutral expression. The statue stands on a dark base with 'William I' carved on it in gold. The statue is situated in the Palace of Westminster and stands against a background of decorative plasterwork and wallpaper.
