A larger than life-sized white marble sculpture of a middle-aged man, standing with one foot in front of the other with his arms crossed. His left hand is placed under his right elbow while his right-hand holds folded papers. He gazes straight ahead and is wearing a long coat to his knees with a cravat and collar that rises to his jaw line. His hair is neatly coiffed in a side parting, showing a receding hairline and is long enough to cover his ears. He has large facial features and a button-shaped chin. Behind him, a cloth is draped over a short plinth on which a pile of books is visible. He stands on a large, square-shaped plinth with the corners cut.
