Full-length white marble sculpture of a white man in middle age. He is holding a book in his left hand, the spine of which is resting on a thigh-height plinth to his left. His left leg is also protruding forwards slightly as though he is leaning on the plinth. He is plainly dressed in a three-piece suit and knee-length frock coat. His right hand is clutching the right edge of his morning coat at his chest and he gazes slightly to his right with a neutral expression. He has a full beard and moustache and thick hair.
