1987-1987 | WOA 3232
A painting of a debate taking place in a full House of Commons chamber. All the benches are filled with Members, mostly male but with a few women, sitting wearing suits and ties of various dark neutral colours. Other Members stands at the edges of the Chamber next to the benches. Above the Members is the viewing gallery, which is also mostly full of people watching the debate. Margaret Thatcher stands at the Despatch box at the centre of the image, giving a speech. She wears a blue jacket and skirt. The Speaker sits in the Speaker's chair at the end of the Chamber, wearing a long white wig and a black gown. The Chamber is light and airy and beams of light stream in from the windows at the top of the Chamber.
