- Signed drawing showing the event of W.E. Gladstone's (1809-98) funeral with the coffin lying-in-state in Westminster Hall, dated May 27th 1898. The view is from the north west corner.
Former Prime Minister W.E. Gladstone died on 19th May 1898. He was the first person to lie-in-state in Westminster Hall. The coffin was brought from Hawarden Castle so that members of the public could pay their last respects, from 6am to 8pm on Thursday May 26th and Friday May 27th. The funeral was held the following day, Saturday 28th May, in Westminster Abbey. - Date Created
